Police get custody of man held in cybercrime case

Imphal, August 19 2024: One Sanatomba Aheibam (23) s/o Shyamkishore of Takyel Khongbal Maning Leikai, who arrested by Imphal police station in connection with a cybercrime case, has been remanded to police custody till August 20.According to a police report, several victims filed complaints to Imphal PS stating that 'Meitei Kangleipak', a Facebook Page and You Tube channel, has been making defamatory and cyber harassment.

The account had taken the photos uploaded on the personal Facebook accounts of the complainants without their consent and reposted the same on the Facebook Page and You Tube channel in an obscene manner on May 10, inviting many slanderous comments.

As such, the victims requested the PS to take up legal action against the person(s) responsible.

Based on the complaint, Imphal PS registered a case under Information Technology Act 2000 and launched investigation.

During the course of the investigation, police arrested Sanatomba on August 17 and produced him before the court concerned which then remanded him to police custody till August 20 .
