Imphal, October 15 2024:
In the current crisis in Manipur, women play a pivotal role making up 90 percent of those involved, while men account for about 10 percent, informed Writers' of Manipur (WOM) .
The 100-day commemoration of the assistance campaign by WOM was held at Manipur Jagoi Marup office at Lamboi Khongnangkhong on Sunday.
The event, conducted in two sessions, was attended by WOM members Akoijam Devendra, who is also president of Manipur Sahitya Samiti Thoubal, and Writer's Forum, Imphal president Irungbam Basanta as presidium members.
During the event, WOM member Birendrajit Naorem pointed out the importance of respecting and acknowledging the role of women amid the ongoing crisis.
He stressed the need to understand their issues and challenges arising out of the crisis.
While the situation appears to be improving in the central valley areas, there seems to be no change in tension gripping the foothills, he noted, while calling upon all to extend maximum support to those guarding the fringe villages.
A two-minute silence was observed as a mark of respect to those who lost their lives in the conflict.
