Bishnupur, May 08 2025:
A one day awareness programme on 'Ban of Single Use Plastic (SUP) in Educational Institutions' was organised by Directorate of Environment and Climate Change in collaboration with CI College, Bishnupur Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) at the college's seminar hall on Thursday.
The programme was attended by Environment and Climate Change director Dr T Brajakumar Singh, CI College principal professor RK Rajes-hwari Devi and IQAC co-ordinator Dr Ch Nivanonee as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
In his address, Dr Brajakumar acknowledged utility of plastic products but remarked that mismanagement in disposal of the same is harming the environment, consequently prompting the government to initiate mea-sures for banning SUPs which do not meet the prescribed criteria in order to safeguard people from plastic pollution.
Speaking at the programme, Dr Nivanonee pointed out that even if plastic business is a thriving trade around the world, environmentally harmful properties of plastic products, random discarding of used ones and the protracted natural decomposition process are some key factors for the decision to ban use of single use plasties.
Considering the harm caused to the environment, the programme has been organised to raise awareness on the government policy to protect the environment from plastic menace, she reasoned.
As a part of the programme, the participants collected plastic waste from around the college campus and disposed them at a designated site.
