Imphal, October 07 2024:
Issuing clarification regarding a viral post on Facebook and other social media platforms accusing him and Bengali communities (Hindus and Muslims) of abetting the violence in Jiribam district, Jiribam MLA Md Achab Uddin asserted that neither he nor the Bengali community is associated with any terror organisations.
"I would also like to reiterate that being the elected representative of Jiribam assembly constituency, I have taken active role to bring, back peace and normalcy in Jiribam district affected by turmoil of the conflict," the MLA said in a release on Monday.
He also dismissed as baseless and unfounded that he and Bengalis are funding Kuki-Hmar violent groups.
"It may be worth mentioning that since May 3, 2023, when the unwanted violence started in our state, I took the initiatives to form a District Level Peace Committee headed by the Jiribam deputy commissioner and the SP along with the leaders from all communities residing in Jiribam district.
Hence, my assembly constituency was peaceful for around a year.
I along with the district administration is working to contain the gunfight and other related violent incidents," explained the MLA.
As such, he appealed to the public to abstain from sharing such malicious and baseless statements posted by Unknown persons while reminding that as a citizen of Manipur, all concerned should shoulder the responsibility to ascertain veracity of any article before sharing it as it may create division among communities and make the efforts futile.
While reaffirming personal commitment to bringing peace and normalcy in Jiribam, the MLA also disclosed that he has reported the hate speech posted on the social media to the Jiribam SP for further investigation and nab those scheming to fuel violence.
