Be torchbearers of anti-drug drive: Nemcha to youth

Attending the closing ceremony of the 20th Keithelmanbi Ward Wise Sports Meet-2023 as chief guest on Wednesday, commerce & industries minister and local MLA Nemcha Kipgen motivated the youth to consume healthy food for building a healthier society and future.
Speaking at the event, minister Nemcha expressed that Manipur is a blessed state with the youth contributing their mite towards enhancing profile of the state in all aspects.
While pointing out that Manipur has been a dominant force in sports at the national and international levels, she also conveyed that it's a perfect time for people to encourage education and sports among the youth who are the future hope of the society.
"Let us not let drugs rule us, we must overcome and eliminate the drug menace in the state to build a healthier and brighter Manipur for which the role of the youth would be decisive", she said.
The minister also pointed out that the state has a very soft land that requires proper preservation and protection, while adding that by using various toxic chemicals for poppy cultivation, one is only abetting destruction of own future.
"We need to nip the culture of poppy cultivation and for that matter, the youth need to be active torchbearers in the government's 'War on Drugs' campaign", she asserted.
Nemcha also urged church leaders and the village authority, youth and women's society of Keithelmanbi Military Colony to organise a mega youth camp and if required, women and men's camp as well.
She further conveyed her willingness to sponsor such camp to create awareness on drugs and save the society from the ills of drugs.
The closing ceremony was also attended by Saitu MLA Haokholet Kipgen as guest of honour and Kangpokpi deputy commissioner Kengoo Zuringla as functional president, while SP Th Vikramjit Singh was present as distinguished guest.
During the sports meet, Ward No 2 emerged as the champions in U-14 boy's football and Ward No 7 finished runners-up, while in women's football, Ward No 9 clinched the title and Ward No 4 secured the runners-up position.
In men's volleyball, Ward No 8 emerged as the champions and Ward No 6 runners-up, while in women's volleyball, Ward No 9 bagged the champions' trophy and Ward No 1 ended runners-up.
The concluding event of the sports meet was the men's football final between Ward No 5 and Ward No 6 in which S Minlun's brace in the 56th and 74th minutes ensured Ward No 5 lifted the trophy, while Ward No 6 had to be contended with the runners-up trophy.
