Bijili Mahotsav, Ujala Diwas celebrated across state

Imphal, July 29 2022: The weeklong observance of Bijili Mahotsav & Ujala Diwas in the state, which began on July 25, continued on Tuesday in Kangpokpi and Kamjong districts.

In Kangpokpi, the district administration celebrated the Bijli Mahotsav and Ujala Diwas at Saijang village community hall under Saikul Sub-Division.

Speaking at the function, Kangpokpi deputy commissioner Kengoo Zuringla pointed out that the function is held for celebrating Ujjwal Bharat, Ujjwal .Bhavishya -Power@2047 as a part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, an initiative of central government to celebrate and commemorate 75 years of India's Independence.

She said the event aims to highlight key achievements in power sector in India and the state under the initiatives of Ministry of Power and Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, in collaboration with the state government, including NHPC, Power Grid, District Administration and Manipur State Power Distribution Company Ltd (MSPDCL).

The function was also attended by Sadar Hills ADC caretaker chairman Haokholal Hangshing, former vice chairman Thangjakam Misao, who is also Thangkhanphai village chief, former MDC Thongjalun Mate, SDO (Saikul) Bhungba Maibam Khuman, MSPDCL DGM Thanglalsam, Saijang village headman, officials and staff of the relevant departments and locals among others.

Some of the achievements of power sector in Kangpokpi district include delivering electricity to all census villages with charging of 25 KVA DTR installed under the 12th Plan of Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gramin Jyoti Yojana (DDUGY) at Leisang village on April 2018, which was the last village to be electrified under the same scheme.

All together 46 villages were electrified under the scheme, resulting in giving electricity to 866 households for the first time while 18 villages were electrified under Saubhagya Scheme, launched by PM Narendra Modi.

Another 111 villages benefitted from the scheme by extension of LT lines which resulted in 6,766 households getting electricity connections.

Integrated Power Development Scheme has been implemented in Kangpokpi District HQ.

The installation of four DTRs resulted in voltage improvement at four localities, benefiting hundreds of people.

A total of 11,000 numbers of prepaid meters were installed under various sponsored schemes.

In Saikul Sub- Division, under the 12th Plan of DDUGY, 10 un-electrified villages were electrified through grid connection enabling 249 households to enjoy electricity for the first time.

Under the Saubhagya Scheme, 89 villages benefitted with infrastructure extension resulting in 2,818 households receiving electricity connections.

Prepaid meters are also being installed through state sponsored schemes.

Meanwhile, Sadu Koireng village received additional DTR through system strengthening.

Meanwhile, in Kamjong district the second Bijili Mahotsav and Ujala Diwas organised by the district administration in association with MSPDCL and NHPC Ltd was held at Koso village under Phungyar sub-division.

The programme was attended by Ukhrul ADC ex-vice chairman M Isaac and former EM Somimayar Awungshi as chief guest and guest of honour respectively.

Kamjong DC Rangnamei Rang Peter, Phungyar sub-division SDO Duna Duo, MSPDCL Kamjong DGM Victor Duidang and NHPC Ltd senior manager Hemam Dhanashyam were also present at the function.

Speaking on the occasion, M Isaac noted that a new mission relating to a new - enlightened India is being started by the Narendra Modi-led government as India celebrates its 75th year of Independence.

He also expressed gratitude to the district administration led by the DC for bringing every welfare schemes and projects to every nook and corner of Kamjong district.

In his address, DC Peter said that celebration of such an event will bring awareness to the villagers about the importance of power supply in such a time and generation where everything related to life is connected to electricity.

He also expressed his gratitude to the present government led by Narendra Modi at the centre and N Biren in the state for bringing such a change to the people.

He appealed the villagers for judicious use of power and to inculcate the habit of switching off lights and appliances when not in use.

Beneficiary testimonials from the public including village headman were also given to the dignitaries and to the gathering.

Later, a cultural performance was presented by a dance group of the Koso village.

A nukkad natak on the importance of electricity in our lives was also presented.

As a part of the programme, short film related to village and rural electrification, renewable energy, etc., were screened.

Moreover, films on Consumer Rights and Renewable Energy were also shown to the villagers.

Masks were also distributed to all the attendees.
