Cancer facility opens OPD, chemotherapy service

Imphal, November 23 2022: Karkinos Manipur Cancer Care & Research Institute (KMCCRI) has opened its OPD and Day Care Chemotherapy service at the institute located within JNIMS Campus.

Speaking on the occasion, KMCCRI director and CEO Dr GS Moirangthem noted with regret that the Northeast has been declared as cancer hub of the country and large numbers of denizens visit Tata Hospital for cancer treatment.

However, the patients face inconveniences due to language barrier and accommodation.

Considering their plight, Karkinos proposed to the chief minister for setting up a cancer hospital in the state which the CM reciprocated by placing the proposal in the cabinet meeting and approving the same.

The government provided a land plot of 3.2 acres inside JNIMS Complex and now the hospital has become operational, he said and added that the hospital is getting full cooperation from the government officials.

He further said that the OPD and Day Care Chemotherapy services were opened with the objective to help diagnose cancer early and prevent or cure it through early treatment.

There are certain early warning signs of cancer and understanding them could help in preventing and curing the disease, the CEO said, adding that the institute would provide facilities for prevention, early detection, early surgery, cure surgery, chemotherapy, immuno therapy and palliative care & spiritual counselling for last stage patients.

Dr GS Moirangthem also confided that a team of doctors from the renowned Mayo Clinic, the US partner of Karkinos, would be visiting the hospital in December this year.

He appealed for cooperation from the public and media and also informed that the hospital will provide OPD and day care chemotherapy services from 9 am to 2 pm daily except on Saturday and Sunday.

JNIMS director Dr L De ben, who was also present at the event, said that cancer patients in the state will have some breather as they will not need visit hospitals in other states.

Visiting hospitals in other states often creates certain inconveniences such as involving another person, accommodation, language barrier and huge financial involvement.

The institute located within JNIMS complex will resolve those inconveniences significantly, he said.

Patients have now started visiting the hospital.

Cancer patients do not need to fear for their lives as early detection and treatment can cure the disease.

In case of having suspicion of having cancer, one can visit the hospital for screening for early treatment, he said.

The institute's radiation oncologist head Dr Y Indibor, Karkinos Kerala CEO and medical director Dr Moni Abraham, Clinical Operations and Allied Services director and senior radiation oncologist Dr Kunnambath Ramadas, KMCCRI director and medical & precision oncologist senior consultant Dr Sourabh Radhakrishnan also attended the event.
