Imphal, April 23 2023: A 30-year-old married woman was found dead hanging under suspicious circumstances at Thangmeiband Hijam Dewan Leikai under Imphal PS on Saturday.

The deceased woman has been identified as RK Deviya (30) w/o Laishram Rocky of Thangmeiband Hijam Dewan Leikai.

According to a police report, Deviya was found hanging from the ceiling fan in one of the rooms at her husband's house around 10 am Saturday.

The deceased got married three years ago and was a mother to toddler over a little over a year old.

On April 21, Deviya got into a fight with her two sisters-in-law and was reportedly beaten up, wherein she sustained injuries.

She was taken to RIMS by her husband Rocky for treatment.

Meanwhile, as per her natal family, Deviya contacted them on the night of the fight and requested them to come and take her back the next morning.

However, on Saturday morning, Rocky called her family to inform them of her death.

When her family arrived at Rocky's house, they found police and forensic experts conducting an investigation.

Deviya's natal family was barred from entering the premises.

They then alleged that Deviya was beaten up by her in-laws and hanged to make her death look like a suicide.

On receiving news of the incident, a team of Women PS accompanied by top police officers of Imphal West district arrived at the scene and took the crowd under control.

Imphal PS has registered an FIR in this regard and the body taken to RIMS morgue for post-mortem examination after an inquest by forensic experts.

Imphal PS has also arrested Deviya's in-laws including her husband Rocky, his parents, the two sisters-in-law and one of their children.

They were produced before the duty magistrate on Sunday, wherein the police made a prayer for remanding all six accused to 10 days in police custody for interrogation purposes.
