Imphal, August 19 2024:
The monitoring cell established for the Manipur University Students' Union (MUSU) elections 2024-25 scheduled for August 23, has announced that the election code of conduct will come into effect from Tuesday.
Addressing media persons at the MUSU office, on Monday, monitoring cell convenor Ngariyanbam Milan said that the committee formed by eight organisations, aims to ensure that the MUSU 2024-25 election is conducted fairly and impartially.
During the said period, candidates are restricted to campaigning only within the MU campus and display A3-sized posters within the campus for voter identification.
However, distributing cards, posters, exam schedules, or any other materials that could identify candidates is strictly forbidden.
Candidates are also banned from house-to-house campaigning, and activities such as 'pick-ups' of voters on the voting day are not allowed.
Additionally, organising luncheon, dinner or tea parties related to the election is also prohibited, Milan stated.
He also announced that all candidates will be invited to participate in an open debate and discussion.
From the start of the election code of conduct until the election is completed, no one is permitted to organise or take part in fresher's meets, study tours, picnics, or charity events.
The use of intoxicants is also banned during the election campaign.
Additionally, no outsiders are allowed to enter the MU campus for election-related activities, although individuals with official purposes are permitted entry.
Milan further stated that no member of the monitoring cell is allowed to be a candidate, inner-agent, proposer, seconder, or counting agent.
