Imphal, July 19 2024:
All India Trade Union Congress, Manipur State Committee (AITUC/MSC) has proposed that the state government honour genuine demands of the ASHA workers.
In a release, AITUC/MSC stressed that both state and central governments should discuss and fulfil the long-standing demand of ASHA workers as their activities are no less than that Of nurse and health staff employed by the state government.
The government should not forget dedicated service rendered by ASHA workers during the Covid-19 pandemic as they had visited houses to make the people aware about the outbreak, preventive measures and distributed medicines with least concern for their personal safety, it pointed out.
While proposing that ASHA workers be granted formal recognition as employees of the state government, the release contended that the meagre amount of Rs 2000 from central government and Rs 1000 state's share paid to the ASHA workers is not illogical considering the modern day cost of living.
As such AITUC demanded increasing their monthly honorarium to Rs 15,000 by hiking the state's share and urged for a special budgetary provision for ASHA workers in the upcoming state assembly session.
