Firing briefly stalls voting at Thamnapokpi

Bishnupur, April 19 2024:
Shots fired by unidentified persons at polling station No 27/7 and 27/8 set up at Thamnapokpi Upper Primary School, under Moirang police station in Bishnupur district, briefly interrupted the voting process of the 18th Lok Sabha election, on Friday.
According to reports from the site of incident, a heated argument broke out between two individuals while waiting in queue to cast vote.
During the altercation, one of them seized a gun from the other and fled the scene.
As tension mounted between two groups of people, unknown persons fired in the air consequently disrupting the voting process.
However, the situation was brought under control with the intervention of the police led by Bishnupur additional SP P Amarjit and casting of votes resumed from around 10:45 am.
Incidents of disruption in the polling process due to breakdown of EVMs were also reported in few polling stations.
