Imphal, March 03 2025:
Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) on Monday submitted a memorandum to Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla seeking urgent measures to extend help to families affected by the hailstorm and rainstorm that struck several districts of the state on Sunday.
The memorandum highlighted the wide-spread damage caused by the unseasonal rainfall, accompanied by hailstorm and gust, which lashed parts of Imphal West, Thoubal, Kakching, and Noney districts.
According to MPCC, the unpredictable weather pattern brought lightning and thunderclaps, followed by light to heavy rainfall, which lasted for a few hours but caused severe destruction.
The hailstorm and strong winds damaged CI sheet roofs, blew away the roofs of multiple houses, and caused significant damage to standing late-winter crops.
The windstorm also uprooted trees, snapped power lines, and led to water logging in low-lying areas, while several houses suffered substantial damages.
In the memorandum, MPCC president K Meghachandra urged the Governor to provide immediate relief materials, including roofing sheets and essential household commodities, to the affected families.
He also appealed for compensation to farmers who suffered losses due to the damage caused to horticulture and crops.
Emphasising the urgent need for assistance in the interest of the affected families and farmers, MPCC called for swift action to ensure that those impacted by the disaster receive the necessary support to rebuild their lives.
