Chandel observes World Suicide Prevention Day

Kakching, September 27 2024: District Mental Health Programme and District Health Society, Chandel observed World Suicide Prevention Day-2024 at Oak Hill Christian Academy in Chandel district with Chandel SDC Wanglar Promilata Monsang and CMO Dr Joyson Mathew Monsang as chief guest and president respectively, and District Hospital's medical superintendent Dr Shakchung Serbum and Academy principal Francis Huten as guests of honour.

In his key-note address, senior psychiatrist and DMHP Chandel DNO Dr Robindro Khangembam delivered a details presentation focused on suicide prevention and steps to overcome depression for mental health, prevent oneself from suicide ideation and the act of committing.

Addressing the gathering, chief guest Wanglar Promilata emphasised on meditation, prayer and self-awareness as means and ways to combat depression and prevent suicide while Dr Joyson Mathew stressed the importance of awareness among youth and finding inner peace through prayer and skill development.

A slogan writing competition was conducted from September 1 to 10 at eight educational institutions of the district in connection with the observance with Rithahring Daryal of United College wresting the first position, Thaithuilung Kamei of Oak Hill Christian Academy adjudged second position winner and Kiirii Parii Monsang of Oak Hill Christian Academy bagging the third position.

Around 250 students from seven educational institutions participated in the observance function.
