Imphal, May 27 2024:
Pointing out that people of the state, including the Meetei community, are facing serious inconveniences, Regional Indigenous Forum for Peaceful Co-Existence (RIPCO) has urged authorities concerned to reduce the fares of flight and chopper services.
In a release, RIPCO pointed out that Meetei face risk of taking the land route to other states due to the conflict that broke out on May 3, 2023.As Meetei could not travel along the two National Highways connecting the state with rest of the country for various purposes, they opt for air services.
But many could not afford the flight fares, it continued, while urging authorities concerned to reduce at least 30-40 per cent of flight and chopper fares for Meetei, excluding government employees and higher ups.
He further proposed that the state government convey their demand for reducing airfare to the civil aviation ministry or ensure safety of the Meetei in travelling along the National Highways.
