Imphal, December 20 2024:
The blockade of Imphal-Pangei Road imposed by Imphal-Pangei Road Joint Development Committee completed the fourth day on Friday, with the road in Salanthong, Khurai Heikrumakhong and Pangei areas barricaded by the locals nearby.
Speaking in connection with the blockade, Committee convenor Salam Ibopishak recounted that subsequent to a written request submitted to the chief minister and ministers concerned on January 10, an executive engineer assured to repair the road by June 15.As such, the road blockade was withdrawn at the time.
He continued that after some potholes were mended,' the work was suspended due to rainfall and continued to remain suspended to this day.
Subsequently, the Committee, after a public meeting, decided to block the road indefinitely until it is repaired.
However, despite informing the local MLA and departments concerned regarding the Committee's decision, no positive response has been received till date.
Thus, the blockade will continue until the road is repaired, he stated.
On the other hand, Khurai Khunphamlem Leimarel Sin-tha Lup has informed that the eviction notice issued by the Imphal East district sub-deputy collector for areas under the Panchayat Ghar of Khurai Nandeibam Leikai, ordering the eviction of houses, clubs and even the Panchayat Ghar which are located on the banks of Imphal River, has left the people of the area confused.
In this regard, Lup member Khundrakpam (o) Shantibala Leima questioned the rationale in issuing the eviction notice, specifically targeting the people under the jurisdiction of the Panchayat Ghar, while ignoring the houses constructed right on the river bed from Lamlong bridge till Pangei.
She further demanded an explanation from the authority concerned regarding the same.
