Imphal, October 20 2024:
Denouncing alleged inaction by the central government to check relentless attacks by armed Kuki on innocent lives and challenge posed to internal security of India, Federation of Civil Society Organisations (FOCS) Manipur likened leniency of New Delhi to furthering hidden agenda of creating chaos in the state.
In a release, FOCS pointed out that attacks by Kuki terrorists to disrupt unity of Manipur has been continuing for more than 16 months.
He said many innocent civilians including women have lost their lives in attacks involving drone bombing and firing rockets.
It is unfortunate that Prime Minister and Union Home Minister are maintaining silence in-spite of being aware about such attacks, the Federation said.
It also wondered reason for the central government not taking action against Kuki National Organisation (KNO) and Kuki militants indulging in acts of terrorism.
The recent attacks on Meetei villages, hours after the peace meeting of Meetei, Naga and Kuki legislators, facilitated by Union Home Ministry and chaired by MP Dr Sambit Patra, underscored that Kukis disregard the central government.
Kuki militants also had the audacity to attack Borobeka police station in Jiribam district and burn schools and houses since Saturday, it said.
The Federation cautioned of intense agitation in case the centre cedes to demand of the Kuki for union territory having legislative assembly similar to Puducherry.
