Interim body decries UDOA election

Ukhrul, October 14 2022: The interim body of the Ukhrul District Olympic Association (UDOA) has decried the recent election of the president and general secretary of the other Ukhrul District Olympic Association (UDOA) as unconstitutional, alleging that the same was devoid of the guidelines of Manipur Olympic Association (MOA) .

In a press statement issued by its interim president Phungchan Raikhan, the association stated that it condemned "the invalid election conducted unconstitutionally for the post of self-styled president and secretary of the so-called un-recognized Ukhrul District Olympic Association by some groups on 8th October 2022", alleging that the said election was conducted without following any rule of law or the guidelines of MOA.

The decision to condemn the election was taken in its emergency meeting held on October 10, 2022 at the office of Ukhrul District Sports Association (UDSA), Wino Bazaar, Ukhrul, it said adding that the members present at the meeting questioned on what Memorandum of Association and guidelines were the election conducted.

The meeting was attended by representatives from 22 sports associations operating in Ukhrul district.

Shimray and former Deputy Speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly also a sports enthusiast attended the said meeting and suggested for bringing unity and development among the various sports disciplines operating in the district.

"The members present after thorough deliberation constituted an Election Committee to conduct the election for the Ukhrul District Olympic Association (UDOA) in accordance with the rules and guidelines as per the Memorandum of Association of Manipur Olympic Association and in consultation with the President of Manipur Olympic Association" .

Accordingly, Soreingam Luiram has been appointed as the Chief Election Commissioner, and RS Ramyang, Khayui Raleng, Nixon Shirik, Worthing Soro and Theophilus Zimik as members of Election Commission, it said.

The meeting unanimously agreed to convene a General Body Meeting of Ukhrul District Olympic Association (UDOA) on October 26 2022 in the office of Ukhrul District Sports Association, Wino Bazaar, Ukhrul and requested all sports associations operating in the district to attend the proposed GBM, the statement added.
