Tamenglong, July 14 2021: Forest and Environment minister Awangbow Newmai on Wednesday launched a mass vaccination drive cum tree plantation programme as a part of Sehat Ka Amrut and 'Van Mahotsav' celebration at Makui village in Kangpokpi district.

The programme was organised by 44 Assam Rifles of HQ 22 Sector/ IGAR (E) .

Minister Awangbow Newmai and chairman ADC Tamenglong Nam-sinrei Panmei attended the event as chief guest and guest of honour respectively.

In his speech, Awangbow stated that the importance of oxygen is only realised during the second wave of Covid-19 pandemic.

Two kg of oxygen is needed for a healthy person whereas sick people need at least 10kg of oxygen per day, he said and asked all to take a pledge on the occasion of Van Mahotsav to plant at least seven trees saplings in a year.

The forest minister thanked the 44 Assam Rifles for organising the health camp and vaccination drive for the people of Makui village and surrounding villages during this pandem ic.

The chief guest also inaugurated a forest rest house and planted tree saplings on the forest festival day.

Kangpokpi DFO Chingphilhing Kipgen, 44 Assam Rifles commandant Pradeep Kumar N Silakbou, Makui village chairman R Dikhampibou, Pastor Liangchi, Baptist Church, CSO, youth and women society attended the Van Mahotsav programme.

Van Mahotsav or Forest Festival is an annual tree planting festival celebrated in the month of July during which thousands of trees are planted all over the country to spread awareness about forest conservation to save the environment.

On his way, Minister Awangbow also visited PHC T Vaichong and met the health workers.

While observing poor infrastructure of the health centre which caters to more than 72 villages, the forest minister assured of donating two D-Type cylinders and also promised to have a talk with the minister concerned and the higher authority for providing an ambulance and solar panels for smooth functioning of the PHC.

Awangbow also inaugurated a hanging bridge, football ground and water reservoir which have been the much-awaited projects of the villagers of Louthang, Tuilang area, Tamenglong district.

During the inauguration, Awangbow promised the villagers to help in every way he could - be it supply of rice, bringing in development projects or Aadhaar card enrolment.

He also urged the villagers to always protect virgin forests while reminding the gathering to plant trees and not to do it just for personal benefits.

He also distributed red blankets to the senior citizens, church leaders, women society and various CSOs of the villagers of Makui, Lasan, Song-pibung and Louthang.

The minister also inaugurated Lansan Primary School and Lansan Sports ground under his constituency (Tamei sub-division) in Tamenglong district.

While touring in his constituency, Awangbow interacted with the villagers of Lasan and Songpibung and requested them to get inoculated at the earliest.

After the interaction programme, the minister inaugurated Songpibung village playground, constructed under the MLALADS fund, in the presence of ADC Tamenglong chairman Namsinrei Panmei.

Meanwhile, PIB (Defence) Imphal, informed that the vaccination camp aims to carry forth vaccine and medical checkup near to home in the remote areas of the district.

The aim of the camp is to provide free vaccine to senior citizens and residents of remote rural areas who have limited mobility due to physical and connectivity problems and also to spread the message of environment conservation and preservation to the public.
