Imphal, June 13 2024:
The students' union arid' students of Dhanamanjuri University (DMU) on Thursday staged protest demanding removal of the vice chancellor and the registrar of the varsity, and also conducting the semester examination in a uniform manner.
As part of the protest, the protesting students pulled out tables and other items from the A-Block of the university and set the same on fire.
They locked themselves inside the A-Block demanding a definite response from the authorities concerned.
In this regard, DMU Students' Union general secretary Takhelmayum Dijen said that the VC of DMU had visited the university only 2-3 times and as such, the VC is unaware of plight of the students.
The registrar is also doing whatever he likes.
Thus, he urged for removal of the VC and the registrar at the earliest.
Mentioning about delay in conducting the semester examinations despite repeated requests to hold the same, Dijen said that the registrar colluded with his preferred teachers to convene a meeting of the academic council and fixed the examination schedule.
However, when students tried to avail the examination forms, the forms were limited in numbers.
The departments are also in the process of conducting the examinations in their preferred ways.
As such, he demanded that the examinations be conducted uniformly, while cautioning that the students will not retreat from A-Block until all their demands are met.
