Imphal, June 09 2024:
Coalition of Civil Societies Kangleipak (CCSK) president Jeetendra Ningomba has demanded the government to deploy adequate strength of security forces to protect the civilians instead of evacuating them.
He made the remark on the sidelines of a free medical camp and cleanliness drive held at Khwairamband Keithel No 4 on Sunday, in the aftermath of the recent flood.
CCSK organised the events in association with Kanglei Keithel Ima Lup, and Khwairamband Ima Keithel Joint Coordinating Committee for Peace.
Interacting with the media, Jeetendra said that Central security forces have been relocating civilian population caught in the current ethnic conflict that began from May 3 last year.
Instead, the government should deploy adequate number of security forces to protect them and their properties.
Simply relocating them in the name of evacuating to safety is akin to handing over their land to others, which is not a right step on the part of the government.
Regarding the free medical camp, he expressed gratitude to JNIMS and SIMS for their cooperating and support in organising the event, especially after the recent flood.
JNIMS director Laishram Deben said that the medical camp aims to prevent spread of communicable diseases among the women vendors of Khwairamband Keithel in the wake of the recent flood.
He also assured further assistance in case there is an outbreak.
Kanglei Keithel Ima Lup president Okram Thoibi appreciated CCSK, doctors and nurses of JNIMS and SIMS for their support in organising the medical camp.
She also appealed to all concerned to refrain from hiking prices of essential commodities taking advantage of the flood.
