Source: Chronicle News Service

Imphal, June 08 2022: Locals of Keirao Makting Awang Leikai on Wednesday protested against family members of four households; who were banished in connection with the killing of headmaster Md Hashmad Ali of the same locality on alleged charge of stealing a cow; from returning to their houses.

After the four families pleaded in the court of Civil Judge Senior Division, Imphal East for allowing them to return to their homes, the court on Wednesday reportedly accepted their plea and directed the families to return to their respective houses.

Acting of the order of the court, the banished members of the families along with Irilbung police tried to return home around 11.30 am.

However, denizens of Keirao Makting Awang Leikai erupted in protest, stating that they would not allow 'the murderers' to stay in the locality and blocked the roads by felling trees.

However, escorted by large number of police personnel, the banished families proceeded to their respective, which only infuriated the protestors and pelted stones towards the police.

In view of the intense situation, Irilbung police evacuated the families from the area and retreated, subsequently ending the tense situation.

Speaking to media persons, wife of late Md Hashmad Ali, Jamila Begum asserted that no members of the families involved in killing of her husband should be allowed to come to the area until the court punishes all those involved in the killing.

More intense protest will be launched if they tried to come back forcefully, she cautioned.

It may be mentioned here that Keirao Litan Makhong LP School headmaster Md Hashmad Ali succumbed to injuries after he was thrashed on the alleged charge of stealing a cow at Kongba Ucheckon Lai Muriba under Irilbung Police Station on November 1, 2015.Meanwhile, Md Abdul Matalip alias Amu and his brothers, who were granted bail after staying in jail in connection with the killing of Hashmad Ali, condemned the act of not allowing them to return to their respective houses.

Md Abdul Matalip's son Abdul Hamid claimed that they are not involved in the killing of Hashmad Ali.

His father was in jail for six months but was released by the court, he added, while stating that they are taking refuge at the residence of a relative.

As they have been staying at the residence of the relative for six years and facing tremendous inconveniences, they pleaded the court of Civil Judge senior division Imphal East to allow them to return to their homes which the court accepted.

Acting on the direction of the court, they along with Irilbung police tried to return to their homes at Keirao Makting Awang Leikai.

However, family of Md Hashmad, JAC members and locals sent them back by pelting stones at them, he lamented, while urging against repeating such act.

Hashmad Ali further exhorted authorities concerned, police, JAC and locals to help them return to their homes.Locals of Keirao Makting Awang Leikai on Wednesday protested against family members of four households; who were banished in connection with the killing of headmaster Md Hashmad Ali of the same locality on alleged charge of stealing a cow; from returning to their houses.
