Imphal, October 07 2024:
Kuki Students' Organisation (KSO) has reportedly filed a petition at the Delhi High Court, seeking re-designation of Churachandpur as an examination centre for the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) examinations, not only for the ongoing academic year but permanently.
The petition also urged the court to issue directives to the SSC and the state government to make arrangement and provide fare for tribal students from the hill districts of Manipur to Aizawl in Mizoram, following the scraping of Churachandpur as an examination centre.
During hearing of the petition on Monday, respondents' counsels sought more time to obtain instructions.
The case examined by a bench comprising Chief Justice Manmohan and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela, has been deferred to October 16 .
The petition filed by advocate Rudrajit Ghosh contended that the decision of SSC to exclude Churachandpur as an examination centre is unfounded and runs contrary to the assessments made by competent government authorities.
KSO also argued that the decision to remove Churachandpur as an examination centre is arbitrary and unfair, severely impacting the educational opportunities of hundreds of Kuki-Zo tribal students, especially those from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
The petition also highlighted the challenges faced by over 500 Kuki students during the recent Combined Graduate Level Examination (Tier-I) 2024, as many candidates who had opted for Churachandpur were reassigned to Aizawl.
