UN team begins ground work for joint Prof in Mizoram

Aizawl, May 06 2014: The United Nations (UN) Technical Mission team which arrived here yesterday in pursuance of the proposed Joint UN Mission project for Mizoram has begun necessary ground study work from today.

They, with important departments, held discussion today over specialized areas for the proposed UN Mission project for Mizoram at 4 different places.

Discussion meetings were held at New Land Use Policy (NLUP) Conference Hall, Central Agriculture University Selesih; Principal Secretary, Labour & Employment office; Secretariat complex; and at Engineer-in-Chief, PWD office.

The discussion at New Land Use Policy (NLUP) conference hall began from 9:30 a.m.under the guidance of L.R.Thanga Principal Secretary, Agriculture, Horticulture, E&F etc..

The visiting experts from 4 UN Agencies viz., UNDP, UNIDO, ILO and FAO held wide interaction with leaders of various departments of Mizoram Government like Agriculture, Horticulture, Fishery, Environment & Forest, Sericulture, Soil & Water Conservation, Industries, and Trade & Commerce in the meeting.

With the reports from each of the Departments on their overall initiatives, a comprehensive discussion was held over the annual production of Mizoram and the revenue earned by the Mizoram Government.

They also discussed over the ongoing schemes under central government and regarding the potential areas of Mizoram.

They also discussed over the need to boost the technical skill of the farmers and how to carry out processing of the produces.

Besides, the discussion today included the problems faced in marketing of the various produces of Mizoram.

Another discussion meeting was held in the afternoon at the office of P.C.Lallawmsanga, Principal Secretary, Labour & Employment etc.

in which ILO, UNDP and UNIDO interacted with Labour & Employment, Rural Development, Social Welfare, Industries, Youth Commission and Hnam Chhantu Pawl.

Besides, ILO officials held meeting with PWD leaders today at 4 p.m.at Engineer-in-Chief PWD office with regards the initiatives to be taken for continued administration of World Bank Road.

Also today, an important meeting was also held with two of the experts of the visiting UN Technical Mission team Dr Peter Kenmore and Dr AB Negi at Central Agriculture University Conference Hall.

The meeting was over getting rid of PRRS (Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome) .

State Planning Board Member & Secretary, P.L.Thanga, who is also NLUP Implementing Board Vice Chairman & CEO and Dean at College of Veterinary Sciences & Animal Husbandary, Selesih, Prof..DKathiresan besides AH&Vety Director Dr LB Sailo, experts at Vety College and AH&Vety Officers were present in the meeting.

A power point presentation was given on the ways to get rid of PRRS (Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome) as suggested by experts at AH&Vety College from their specialized studies.

The swine disease is said to enter Mizoram around June 2013 .

PL Thanga, State Planning Board Member & Secretary, expressed his hope that FAO experts and AH&Vety leaders would come out with new way of tackling the disease.

The UN Technical Mission experts are also programmed to hold meeting with Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla at Chief Minister's Bungalow this evening.

As to their further schedule, according to official sources, the UN Team will hold meeting tomorrow with various organizations including ZOHANDCO, ZOHANFED, CDAR, MULCO, MAMCO, Hnam Chhantu, besides CYMA, MHIP, MUP, Mizoram Chamber of Industries and Mizoram Chamber of Commerce .

From May 8 onwards, they will start visiting different districts in the State, and by May 12, they will prepare proposal for UN Mizoram Mission Project.
