Governor, CM, others greet on Yaoshang festival

Governor Anusuiya Uikey, chief minister N Biren Singh, ministers and MPCC have extended their warm and best wishes to the people of Manipur on the occasion of Yaoshang festival, which will be celebrated from March 7 to 11.In her message, Governor Anusuiya said that the festival of Holi known as "Yaoshang " in the state is celebrated on the onset of spring every year by the Vaishnavites of Manipur.
It is a celebration symbolising the rejuvenation of the very spirit of life and the young and the old alike take part in this festival of colours, she added.
While noting that the festival is marked by fun and gaiety imbued with spiritualism, leaving behind the past and looking forward to a new day with full of hope, the Governor said Yaoshang exhorts one and all to forget their differences and strengthen their bond of unity irrespective of caste, creed or religion.
She also stated that the festival of "Yaoshang" has now become a sports movement.
Enthused with the spirit of "Yaoshang", the emphasis in these sports is more on participating by all irrespective of age or sex, she maintained and called upon the people to celebrate Yaoshang in its true spirit with the participation of all communities and resolve to make Manipur a better and peaceful state where mutual respect and love prevail among all communities.
According to CM N Biren, Yaoshang (Holi) is one of our biggest festivals of the state which is celebrated for five days in spring starting from the full moon day of the lunar month of Lamta.
It is celebrated with joy and affection through colours, holika and thabal chongba.
For many decades now sports events mark the five-day long festival marking a shift in generational thought, he said and expressed hope that the colours of Yaoshang bring all shades of happiness in the lives of each one of us.
On the other hand, in separate releases, ministers Dr Sapam Ranjan Singh, Nemcha Kipgen, Awang-bow Newmai and Yumnam Khemchand Singh, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president Keisham Meghachandra and MBOCW-WB chairperson K Sarat Kumar Singh also wished that the joyous spirit of Yaoshang rejuvenates and strengthens the age-old bond of love, harmony and understanding amongst all the people in the society.
