Joint security team seizes huge cache of arms, explosives

In the early hours of Saturday, two major operations carried out by.
joint security forces led to recovery of a substantial cache of arms, ammunition, and explosives.
The first operation was carried out near Wabagai Natekhong, Turenmei, under the jurisdiction of Hiyanglam police station.
Acting on reliable information provided by 5/9 Gorkha Regiment (GR), a combined team commenced the operation from 4:00 am, and continued till 7:46 am.
The joint security team consisted of personnel from Kakching CDO unit led by SI S Birla, E Coy of 8th Battalion, 5/9 GR, 33 Assam Rifles, and a team from Hiyanglam police station.
During the search of a secluded area near bushes, a large quantity of arms and explosives, concealed in three white rice bags, was recovered.
The recovered items included multiple firearms, including carbines with magazines, an air gun rifle, single-barrel rifles, and a country-made 9mm pistol.
Several types of grenades, including number 36 HE grenades and number 2 MK-III grenades, were found along with a mortar and a container suspected to contain 4.755 kilograms of explosive materials.
Additionally, security forces recovered various live ammunition, tear smoke shells, anti-riot rubber bullets, detonators, and other explosive devices.
The recovered items also included bulletproof plates, a helmet, a Baofeng radio set with a charger, and a pair of jungle boots.
A case has been registered at Hiyanglam PS, and further investigations are currently underway to trace the origin of the seized items and the individuals involved in concealing them.
In another operation, conducted between 4:30 am and 6:30 am on Saturday, a combined tearh comprising Thoubal police and personnel from 33 Assam Rifles carried out a search operation in Chungkham Ching area of Thoubal district.
The combined team recovered arms and explosives including an SMG carbine with a magazine, a SBBL rifle, a country-made .32 pistol, and an INSAS LMG magazine.
The team also recovered an 81mm mortar shell, several hand grenades, detonators, and various types of ammunition, including rounds for .32, 7.62x39mm, and .38mm firearms.
Along with these, several tear smoke shells, stun shells, rubber bullets, and radio sets were found, as well as an equipment jacket.
The seized items were subsequently handed over to Thoubal police station, where a case has been registered under Arms Act, Indian Wireless Telegraphy Act of 1993, and the Explosive Substances Act.
