Macha Chamma celebrates silver jubilee

Imphal, November 01 2022: Manipuri Chanura Chaokhat Marup (Macha Chamma), which is a micro finance unit of Manipuri Chanura Leisham Marup (Macha Leima), celebrated its silver jubilee on Tuesday.

In a release, Macha Chamma management committee chairperson P Santikumari (Thoi) extended greetings to the people of Manipur, women in particular, in connection with the silver jubilee celebration of Macha Chamma.

Pointing out that the division of labour between man and woman in running the family has been continuing in today's society also, she informed that Macha Leima was formed on April 21, 1969 to help women to live independently and make them participate in social causes in the male-dominated Manipuri society.

As there is the dire need to improve economy of women, Macha Chamma micro finance unit was launched as an important part of Macha Leima in 1997 .

Under the micro finance project, staffers along with beneficiaries have been working hand in hand to improve the condition of the women economically, she maintained, while urging to continue working for betterment of women and children.

The silver jubilee celebration presided over by Santikumari was also attended by Macha Leima life member Huidrom Borkeyna, Macha Leima founder members, executive body, Macha Leima School staff and branch members among others.
