Imphal, September 01 2024:
Inner Manipur MP Dr Angomcha Bimol Akoijam has slammed the Government of India (GoI) and the state authorities for their handling of the violent attack in Koutruk village on Sunday.
In a Facebook post, Dr Bimol condemned the use of drones to bomb residential areas while calling it a significant failure of law enforcement and the armed forces deployed in Manipur.
Dr Bimol's post begins by drawing a stark comparison: "This is no Ukraine.
This is Manipur, one of the States of the Union!" .
He expressed deep frustration over the government's inability to protect civilians from such violent assaults, particularly highlighting the use of drones by militants to carry out bombings on residential areas.
He questioned the accountability of the law enforcement agencies, especially the armed forces under the control of the Government of India, stating, "The latest round of criminal and deadly assault on the civilians, including using drones to bomb residential areas, exposes the failure of the law enforcing agencies, particularly the armed forces under the GoI which are deployed in Manipur.
Who is going to be made accountable for their actions or rather inactions"? .
Dr Bimol further challenged the government to take responsibility for the ongoing violence and the resultant casualties, asking, "Should not the GoI take the moral or otherwise responsibility for these deaths and destruction"? .
He pointed out that the state government had claimed that its actions during the 15-month-long crisis were being carried out "with the consent and advice of Modi and Amit Shah" .
The MP also criticised what he sees as dubious and ineffective deployment of forces in the state and accused the government of allowing communal and sectarian forces to exacerbate the situation, stating, "Whether the state is being run with the help of your local satraps or inducing communal and sectarian forces to tear apart the state or dubious deployment of forces, your hands are stained with the blood of Manipuris, the denizens of the state!" .
He also added a statement of defiance, addressing the central authorities directly: "And try your best to destroy the state, but you haven't heard the last of Manipur!" .
