Over 10 Kuki villages torched in Kangpokpi

More than 10 villages belonging to the Kuki community were attacked and burnt down on Tuesday when people of Kangpokpi were preparing to welcome the Union home minister to Kangpokpi district headquarters on Wednesday.
S Bongjang, Saichang, L Songphel, Kamu Saichang, Nongdam Kuki, Maphou Kuki, Molnom, Molkon, Chaningpokpi and Beulahland vil-lages under Island sub-division were reportedly attacked and torched by Meetei radicalised groups.
Reportedly, the villages were at-tacked under the nose of the central security forces deployed for protection.
Meanwhile, displaying their faith in the Constitution of India, the people of Kangpokpi hoisted the Na-tional Flag at Brig M Thomas ground in Kangpokpi town where the Union Home Minister is expected to land.
The youths are also seen put-ting up the Tricolour and banners all along the roadside to greet the Union home minister.
Amit Shah is expected to arrive here around 1 pm Wednesday and meet prominent civil so-ciety organisations and Kuki leaders.
Speaking to the media, Committee on Tribals Uni-ty, Sadar Hills spokesperson reverend K Sitlhou informed, "We are in such a situation where survival matters, so, we need Constitutional protection and we are expecting or have high hope from Union home minister that the tripartite talks with the UPF and KNO and the governments will soon culminate with a solution." Regarding the agendas the Committee would place to the Union minister, Sitlhou stat-ed that the ground reality of the violence with numerous evidence has already been submitted to various central agencies and he believes all the evidence submitted is enough for the Union home minister to judge or know as to who is wrong or right.
He continued that as all the evidences might have come to the knowledge of the Union home minister, he strongly believe that the cries and ago-nies of the Kuki people will be addressed with a permanent solution.
Meanwhile, a young girl who is participating in put-ting up the National Flag along the roadside said that she is excited to welcome the Union home minister as she truly believes that he will bring a solution they are waiting for.
