No bandh as Govt, protestors in harmony: Loken
Source: Chronicle News Service

Imphal, December 29 2021: Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president N Loken said that the culture of bandh and blockade in the hills was put on halt as the government joined hands with the protestors.

However, bandh and blockade are returning as the government failed to keep promises it made to both the hills and valley people.

A felicitation function for new INC members namely intending candidate in Sekrnai AC Popilal Ningthoujam, Ksh Jhaljit of Kakching AC, Kakching Municipal Council Ward Development Committee members Y Lokendro, Ksh Amipal, Ksh Basanta, former general secretary of BJP Kakching Mandal N Ashok and former youth secretary Romesh, was held at Congress Bhawan here on Wednesday.

Speaking at the event, Loken asserted that the BJP cannot mislead the public forever.

Public now know the reason behind the dip in instances of calling bandhs and blockades in the state.

The culture of bandh and blockade in the hills was put on halt as the government had been in harmony with the agitators.

However, the same acts of disrupting public life are returning as the government could not translate into action promises given to the people, he added.

Loken further said that the government is making claims of building better relationship between hills and valley but they seem to forget that the hill-valley relationship has always been good even before BJP came into power.

The Ibobi government constructed several mini secretariats, hospitals and other infrastructure in the hill areas.

It is not the public that restrict Congress in the hill but it is only an armed organisation.

Contrary to the infrastructure development project taken up by Congress in the hills, the BJP government has done nothing, he said and added that BJP cannot dd in 30 years what Congress had done for the development of hilt areas.

In the 75 years of independence, BJP ruled the country for 13 years.

The present status of the country was brought up and developed by Congress.

In politics, there will be downfall and rise.

The public are seeing how they lived under which government and they will make their decision based on their understanding.

The country and the state are seeing the darkest days under the BJP rule.

The numerous flags and posters of BJP are simply a propaganda to hide its falling popularity.

Once the election code of conduct comes into effect, no more party flags and posters will be visible and BJP will go into hiding, he said.

He also charged the government of threatening government employees with transfer in order to gain their votes.

On the other hand, INC believes in sincerity and commitment to win the hearts of the public.

Schemes like CMHT and Ujjwala Yojana are being used as propaganda tool by BJP.

NFSA was introduced and implemented by UPA government and BJP is trying to show it as a gift of Modi to the public.

While the party claims of providing free rice to the public, the government is collecting more than' the required fund in the form of taxes from the public.

It was Congress government that implemented Right to Education Act and ensured free education to school students of poor families.

Mid-Day meal is also an initiative of UPA government, he pointed out.

On the other hand, Modi government assured of creating 2 crore jobs every year but in the state, more than 5 lakh educated unemployed youths are registered in the offices of employment exchange.

Poor families are forced to sell their properties while seeking government job and the BJP government is withholding the recruitment results for years.

Providing financial assistance to some 200 youths under Startup scheme is not enough for resolving the unemployment issue.

However, Congress has plans to create employment opportunities for youth if it comes to power.

MPP government established Manipur Public Service Commission and the Congress government led by O Ibobi made it functional.

As a result, several women are holding top posts of the state government, he said and added that BJP cannot take up such initiatives even in 30 years.
