Tusom CV declared C-zone after 9 test positive

Ukhrul, July 28 2021: The district magistrate of Ukhrul on Wednesday brought the entire habitation area of Tusom CV in the district under containment zone after nine people were found Covid positive.

In an order issued on Wednesday evening, DM Ukhrul Joseph Pauline Kamson stated that in view of the rapid increase of Covid positive cases and its impending threat in the village, containment measures to prevent its spread had become expedient.

He said that the containment measures have been ordered in exercise of the powers conferred upon him under Para 12 of "The Manipur Epidemic Diseases, Covid 19 Regulations, 2020" with immediate effect.

An official source informed that at least nine positive cases have been detected from the village over the past week.

"All the cases do not have any recent travel history and these measures are for containing further spread of the virus," the source said.

Expressing concern over the situation, Ukhrul District Hospital medical superintendent Dr Raikhan has called for stringent enforcement of the containment order restricting public movement within the village and its neighbouring villages to stem spread of the disease.

He said that since the village is far off from here, there had been certain logistic issues in evacuating the patients in time.

"Our ambulance is still on the way back after picking up the patients," he said around 7:45 pm on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, another 23 persons tested positive for the virus during screening and contact tracing from different parts of the district, including screening centres on Wednesday, according to a source from the district surveillance office.

A total of 14 cases were detected out of 40 samples tested at Town Hall Screening Centre, Phungreitang, while three cases were found at UDH Screening Centre, it said.

The source said that another four cases were detected during contact tracing conducted at Ngashantang and one case each was found from Hamleikhong and Litan respectively.
