Locals close road demanding renovation

Locals of Thoubal Khunou in Thoubal district launched protest and closed down the road passing through their village demanding renovation of the deplorable IVR.
Interacting with the media at the protest site, Thoubal Khunou Meira Paibi president Rita Tayenjam said that the village is a Scheduled Caste settlement area with over 200 households.
The IVR that passes through the village was blacktopped only once some eight years back and since then, the government has been ignoring the road.
Existing of a composting and segregation shed of Thoubal Municipal Council in the village area also makes road relatively busy with many light and heavy vehicles passing through on daily basis, despite its deplorable condition, Rita said while recalling that MAHUD minister Yumnam Khemchand, while inaugurating the composting and segregation shed recently, assured of renovating the road soon.
Consequently, the local club approached the minister on multiple occasions with request to start repairing.
However, the government has been ignoring their appeal and the villagers are now Wondering if the government is ignoring their plight because they belong to SC community, she said.
Miffed by the indifferent attitude of the government, the local residents took the decision of closing down the road, she said while urging the government to take up necessary steps for renovating the road at the earliest possible.
