Protest staged against shifting DIET Centre

Imphal, November 25 2021: Imphal West DIET Centre Construction Demand Committee Mayang Imphal, All Mayang Imphal Clubs Organisation and Meira Paibi'organisations jointly organised a sit-in protest against the shifting of District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) Centre from Mayang Imphal.

Interacting with media persons at the protest site at Mayang Imphal Chabungbam Hao Mamang on Thursday, Committee convener Th Noren said that former education minister Dr Kh Ratankumar laid the foundation stone for the DIET Centre on December 16, 2016 .

However, the BJP government, which came to power in the next year, did not take up the construction work.

When approached, the incumbent MLA told some locals that there is no document for construction of the DIET Centre in Mayang Imphal AC.

Consequently, the demand committee filed an RTI application and received relevant documents in response.

In the meantime, it came to light that the education minister S Rajen is trying to shift the Centre to his constituency secretly and people of Mayang Imphal cannot accept it, he said.

He then demanded the government not to shift the DIET Centre from Mayang Imphal but to begin construction at the earliest.

The incumbent local MLA shall be held responsible for any unwanted outcomes if the government forcibly shifts the Centre, he added.
