Khongjom Day held across state, Bangladesh, Tripura

Imphal, April 23 2023: Apart from observance of Khongjom Day by different organisations across the state on Sunday the tribute event was also held in Bangladesh and Tripura.

In Bangladesh, the observance jointly organised by Rajarshi Bhagyachandra Cultural Foundation Manipur, Academy for Manipuri Cultural and Arts (AMCA) and Sylhet Leipak Panchai was held at Manipuri Rajbari Mandap, Sylhet.

The programme was attended by assistant high commissioner of India in Sylhet Neeraj Kumar Jaiswal, MAG Usmani Medical College Hospital Urology Department retired professor Dr Pramod Ranjan Sinha, Sylhet Zilla Parishad CEO Sandeep Kumar Sinha, Sylhet District Sports Association general secretary Mahiuddin Ahmed Shalim, Bangali-Manipuri Sahitya Sangsat president AK Seram, AMCA president Akoijam Degen Singh, Rajarshi Bhagyachandra Cultural Foundation chief Brahmacharimayum Amusana Sharma and MK Hemamanjuri, daughter of Maharaja Bodhchandra among others.

Tripura-based Puthiba Welfare & Cultural Society and Paona Brajabasi Foundation jointly organised Khongjom Day at Puthiba Debata Bari, Abhoynagar in Agartala on Sunday.

The commemorative event organised by Manipur Culture & Literary Society and Paona Brajabasi Foundation, Tripura was held at Gor Nagor in Khwai district of Tripura with Foundation convenor Longjam Somorendro, member Mutum Maniton and Sk Women's College History Department assistant professor Dr Maibam Ratankumar as the presidium members.

Prior to the observance, a blood donation camp was also organised at Puthiba De bata Bari with the support of IGM Hospital, Agartala.

About 30 individuals including personnel of Assam Rifle Agartala Sector 21 donated blood.

Meanwhile, Manipur State Council Communist Party of India, Whirl of Change and Sana Leibak Manipur Hakchang Sajel Thang-Ta Sjndam Shanglen also observed Khongjom Day at their respective premises by offering floral tributes to the portraits of the martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the battle of Khongjom.

Sahitya Thoupanglup and Asheilup Manipur jointly observed World Book Day along with 133rd Khongjom Day observance at Manipur Legislative Assembly Archives and Museum Hall, Old Assembly Road, here, on Sunday.

The Heisnam Basantakumar Award was presented to writer Kshetrimayum Subadani on the occasion.

The award consists of cash and certificate.

Dr Lairenlakpam Ibemhal spoke on 133rd Khongjom Day Observance and Nando Ningomba on 'Battle of Khongjom in Manipuri Literature'.

Manipuri Sahitya Parishad, Imphal president Longjam Joychandra and Asheilup Manipur president Dilip Mayengbam attended the event as chief guest and president respectively.

A recitation programme was also organised as part of the event.

Apunba Khorjei Lup also observed Khongjom Day along with a poetry recitation, titled 'Khongjom Laan Seitha Seireng', at Koirengei Keithel community hall on Sunday.

The observance was attended by Sahitya Akademi awardee Dr Thokchom Ibo-hanbi Singh and Apunba Khorjei Lup president Dr Chinganbam Chandanbala as chief guest and president respectively.

In all, 45 people recited their poems on the occasion.
