Governor assures to secure national highways

Imphal, February 19 2025:
Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla had reportedly assured a delegation of National People's Party (NPP) that additional security forces would be deployed to facilitate safe movement of Meeteis along the Imphal-Dimapur and Imphal-Jiribam sectors of the national highways.
A delegation of NPP state unit led by president Yumnam Joykumar met the Governor at Raj Bhavan on Wednesday and discussed various pressing issues confronting the state.
After the meeting, Joykumar told media persons that the NPP delegation apprised the Governor about untold hardships being endured by the people due to the ongoing violence and discussed about addressing the suffering at least to some extent.
According to Joykumar, the Governor was first apprised about huge impact on economy of people due to costly flight tickets as they could not take the national highways to travel outside the state.
The Governor was then apprised about rising prices of goods particularly essential commodities in the state due to rampant extortions from trucks plying along national highways by armed groups and urged for taking necessary actions.
The Governor took serious note of the concerns raised by the NPP unit and confided that steps for ensuring free movement of people along national highways with deployment of additional security forces have been taken up.
The Governor further told the delegation that steps have been taken up to stop extortions along highways while security forces have started dismantling illegal check posts.
During the meeting lasting for about 45 minutes from 6 pm, Governor Bhalla mooted construction of houses at proper places for displaced persons presently languishing in relief camps and also expediting construction of the Jiribam-Imphal rail line with utilisation of additional machineries and manpower, Joykumar said.
When the NPP delegation apprised about pending disbursement of pension for government employees who retired after June, 2022, the Governor assured to discuss the matter with chief secretary for early disbursement, Joykumar added.
Apart from president Y Joykumar, the NPP delegation comprised general secretary (administration) RK Rameshwar, general secretary (organisation) Rusel Heisnam, and general secretary (frontal organisation) Laitonjam Jayananda.
