Street vendors warn stir

Several women organizations have warned of launching series of intense agitations if the government does not provide a permanent vending place for street vendors at the earliest.
The organizations also decided to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi, if their demand is not met.
The resolutions were adopted during a one-day open discussion on the theme 'Eviction is Not a Solution for Street Vendors' organized by Road Side Vendors' Welfare Association, Khwairamband Keithel at GM Hall today.
Addressing the gathering as presidium member, Laishram Memma, general secretary of Manipur Keithel Phambi Apunba Nupi Lup urged the authorities concerned to issue license to street vendors to allow them sell their wares while adding that many street vendors are looking after needs of their families by coming out in the market.
Saying that they are ready to give tax to the government if permanent licenses to sell wares are issued to them, she pledged that street vendors would contribute money for travelling to Delhi to meet the PM regarding the matter.
Jano Begum of Muslim women leader; Ibetombi of Road Side Vendors' Welfare Association; S Bilashini of the association; M Sakhi, working president of All Manipur Nupi Marup and Kshtri Tama, president of the association were also present at the occasion as presidium members.
