Doctors protest murder of RG Kar PG student

Imphal, October 15 2024: As a part of nationwide protest called by IMA-Junior Doctors' Network & IMA-Medical Students' Network in solidarity with the young doctors on indefinite hunger strike at RG Kar Medical College, Kolkata demanding justice to the PG student of the college raped and murdered, Manipur doctors joined the protest by staging sit-ins at different locations on Tuesday.

The Resident Doctors' Association (RDA) of Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, organised a sit-in protest near the RIMS OPD block.

Speaking on the side-lines, IMA Manipur president Dr Rk Lenin denounced the brutal rape and murder of a female junior doctor of RG Kar Medical College and demanded swift action against the culprits.

Delaying justice is not only inhumane but sets a dangerous precedent, he cautioned, while adding that IMA Manipur fully supports the cause and stands in solidarity with the doctors on strike.

Members of Resident Doctors' Association, JNIMS also staged similar sit-in in front of JNIMS OPD Block during which IMA Medical Students' Network, Manipur convenor Ningthoujam Dinesh denounced failure of the authorities to deliver justice to victim of gang rape and murder case at RG Kar Medical College even after a month of the crime.

He also expressed serious concern that many among the junior doctors on indefinite hunger strike since October 5, have developed serious health issues with some even undergoing treatment in the ICU.

On the other-hand, a release issued by Shija Hospitals & Research Institute Private Limited informed that a protest was staged at the Shija Academy of Health Sciences, Langol demanding justice for victim of the brutal rape and murder case.
