LKDA to develop water body at Hidam Pat

Imphal, January 12 2022: In order to provide irrigation water to 1500 'paris' of paddy fields in Sekta area throughout the year and make the cultivable land green, Lamlai Kendra Development Association (LKDA) is all set to develop Hidam Pat and make it a water body.

The proposed water body will be developed by digging up 14 'paris' of paddy fields located around Hidam Pat and a ritual ceremony for starting the digging process was held on Wednesday.

Regarding the initiative, president L Gojen told media persons that LKDA has been taking up development works in many fields as Lamlai AC remains underdeveloped in every sector.

Farmers of Sekta have been facing difficulties in paddy cultivation due to scarcity of water as successive governments and local MLAs did not take up any step to provide irrigation water to paddy fields.

However, LKDA in coordination with local people has been taking up steps to make Hidam Pat a water body to provide irrigation water to paddy fields of Sekta.

Around 14 Paris of paddy fields located around Hidam Pat will be dug to make it a water reservoir and fill water from river through pumping and rain water from nearby hills and the same will be provided to 1500 Paris of paddy fields of Sekta for year-long agriculture and allied activities, Brojen said, adding that water from the naturally developed water body will be channelled to paddy fields at Sanam Pat and foothills of Baruni hill as well.

He also said that water from Mamang Ching, Laphupokpi, Langthabi and Thaeoipokpi located nearby Hidam Pat will also be conserved.

Social Sporting Club, Sekta Hidam member Ibungosana, who also attended the ritual ceremony, told media persons that farmers of Sekta had been experiencing water shortage during sowing season since the past few years but the initiative taken by LKDA would help the farmers.
