Imphal, September 09 2024:
The People Action Committee (PAC) Against the Brutal Killing of Pravish Chanam on Monday commemorated the 7th death anniversary of Pravish Chanam at his Uripok Achom Leikai residence in a private ceremony attended only by family members and PAC members, due to the ongoing crisis in Manipur.
The PAC expressed solidarity with the people of Manipur and acknowledged hardships being faced by all since outbreak of the violence on May 3, 2023 .
According to a statement of the PAC, Pravish Chanam went missing on September 9, 2017, in Greater Noida, and his body was found cremated by Nithari police four days later, without the knowledge of his family, despite a missing person report filed at the Knowledge Park Police Station.
Due to public pressure, the case was handed over to the CBI.
However, the CBI's Lucknow branch submitted two closure reports, with the sweeping remark that no foul play was observed in their investigation.
Both closure reports were met with protest petitions from the family, resulting in the court to order a reinvestigation.
The latest protest petition has resulted in a new court hearing, scheduled for September 30, 2024, at the SPLJM (CBI) Ghaziabad Court.
The PAC and the family of Pravish Chanam will continue to demand justice and hope that the court will deliver a fair judgment in the case, the statement added.
