Imphal, July 09 2024:
Jiribam Apunba Lup (JAL) has denounced the recent press communique released by Council of Tribal Unity (CoTU), Sadar Hills Kangpokpi, and another by Kuki-Zo Village Volunteer Vangailhang and Tuilangkuol.
The statements in question accused the state police and Meetei armed groups of torching Kuki-Zo houses and indiscriminate firing towards Phaitol village, which JAL dismissed as false and concocted.
In a statement, JAL informed that the reality of the situation is starkly different as armed Kuki-Zo militants first set ablaze the police check post at Lein-gangpokpi and then attacked Manipur Police and fire service teams using sophisticated weapons and bombs.
The assault around 3.10 am Monday caused damage to a fire tender vehicle, police vehicles, and some houses at Leingangpokpi and Gularthol villages.
The security forces responded to the attack to control the situation and subsequently launched search operation which led to the arrest of two armed miscreants.
On the same day, a farmhouse belonging to one A Somorendra in Lalpani was also set bn fire by Kuki-Zo armed militants, JAL said, while highlighting that these incidents were part of a series of illegal and inhumane activities being carried out by the armed Kuki-Zo militants in a well-planned manner.
The arrest of two Kuki-Zo militants along with a large cache of arms and ammunition by 39 Assam Rifles serves as clear evidence against the false narratives being spread, JAL countered.
In light of these events, JAL, in its statement, appealed to the Prime Minister not to trust the false narratives and allegations levelled by the Kuki-Zo people, and urged for an unbiased and truthful assessment of the situation in Manipur.
