Many condemn assault of headmaster

Imphal, November 08 2024: Several organisations and student bodies have come out strongly against the assault of headmaster in-charge of Irilbung High School by miscreants oyer alleged monetary demands.

In a joint statement, AIMS, DESAM, KSA, MSF, SUK and another students' body appealed to all groups concerned to make education a disturbance-free zone.

The statement underscored the need for teachers to work in a disturbance free environment in shaping a society, adding that armed miscreants threatening and assaulting teachers is unwarranted.

The students' bodies then urged all concerned to refrain from such activities in future.

At the same time, the Coordinating Committee on Disturbance Free Educational Zone Demand also strongly condemned the incident that occurred on November 7, terming it as unthinkable'.

The committee said that it has been campaigning for making education disturbance free since 2008, and urged all not to repeat such acts in future.

Decrying the incident, Socialist Students' Union of Manipur (SSUM) stated that such acts of threat, intimidation and assault are not welcomed in a civilised society.

The Union appealed to all concerned to stop indulging in extortion, loan collection for percentage, handling case for financial benefits among others in the name of defending the state amid the current crisis.
