RIMS organises health camps; tree plantation

Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal Department of Radiation Oncology organised a cancer health awareness programme cum health camp in connection with the World Cancer Day observance at Moirang College on Saturday.
In a release, RIMS PRO informed that the health camp was conducted under the Swachhta Health Camp 2024-25 initiative by RIMS in collaboration with the principal and faculty of Moirang College.
This event aimed to raise awareness about cancer, its risk factors, and the importance of early detection and treatment.

Expert speakers, including RIMS Department of Radiation Oncology head Dr Y Sobita Devi, associate professor Dr L Purnima Devi; assistant professor Dr Ak Sunita Devi and senior resident Dr A Ronibala Devi, discussed about common cancers such as lung cancer, breast cancer, and cervical cancer and also highlighted the harmful effects of tobacco and strategies to quit tobacco use, it said.
The release also mentioned that following the awareness session, a health camp was held for the inmates of the relief camp housing internally displaced communities at Moirang College, as well as for other attendees of the programme.
During the camp, essential medical care, health screenings, and guidance on cancer prevention, the importance of regular check-ups.
and adopting a healthy lifestyle were provided to around 100 patients.
Meanwhile, RIMS in collaboration with Gram Vikash, Manipur and Committee on Protection of Meitei Victims, Moreh under Swachhta Action Plan 2024-25 organised a free health camp at Akampat Relief Camp, Ideal Girls College, Imphal East on Saturday.
The camp attended by 15 doctors and 12 medical assistants provided healthcare services on gynaecology, eye, clinical psychology, paediatrics, dental, physical medicine and rehabilitation (PMR) and ear, nose & throat (ENT), medicine distribution, and hygiene awareness to 130 displaced individuals.
On the other hand, RIMS in collaboration with Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), Imphal, organised a tree plantation programme under the Swachhta Action Plan 2024-25 at the RIMS, Ladies Hostel No.3 Complex on Saturday, another release from RIMS PRO said.
The release added that the initiative aimed to promote environmental sustainability and reinforce the importance of maintaining a clean and green campus.
The event was attended by RIMS director professor G Sunil Kumar Sharma along with senior officials from IOCL.
As part of the programme, saplings of various plant species were planted throughout the hostel complex, contributing to the beautification and ecological well-being of the institution.
The event witnessed participation from hostel residents, students, and faculty members.
During the function, trees were planted by Indian Oil AOD GM (RS)Kuntal Mukherjee; CM (RS) Prasanta Tarafdar and Imphal Divisional Office DRSH Rajkumar Mohen whose active involvement underscored IOCL's commitment to environmental sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
The programme concluded with a pledge by all participants to maintain and nurture the planted trees, ensuring their long-term survival and impact, it added.
