Association extends aid to poultry farmers

Manipur Poultry De-, velopment Association has extended financial assistance to poultry fanners whose farms and poultry birds were affected or perished due to the heavy rains accompanied by hailstorm on May S .
On Monday, a team of the Association comprising president Dr RK Satendra, vice president RK Dhanajit, general secretary Ch Dhruba, joint secretary S Robindro and Paikhomba Laitonjam visited the poultry farms located in different parts of Imphal East affected by the hailstorm on May 5.The team met with poultry farmers to assess the damage and provide assistance.
During the visit, they inspected poultry farms in Kei-rao and Andro under Imphal East district and offered financial assistance to ease the farmers' financial distress to some extent.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the inspection visit, Dr RK Satendra noted that many youths have taken up poultry farming as their major source of livelihood, thereby providing not only employment opportunities to the youth but in supporting their families.
He, however, lamented the devastating impact of the recent heavy rainfall and hailstorm, which resulted in extensive damage to poultry farms and loss of many hens, has left many farmers in distress.
He also stated that as the association has received reports about losses suffered by the poultry farmers subsequent to the devastating hailstorm, it has decided to provide some financial assistance to the affected farmers regardless of their membership status within the association.
RK Satendra also advised poultry farmers severely impacted by the hailstorm to visit the association office or reach out to any of its executive members for assistance.
Additionally, he urged the relevant authorities to provide all necessary support to the affected poultry farmers.
The members of the association, on Tuesday, also visited Ishok, Sarikkonjil, Wang-jing, Heirok, Ingourok, Uyal, Khongjom, Wangjingjentha, Lamding Cherapur, Keirao, Langdum, Angtha, Waikhong, Kakching, and Thongjao and extended financial assistance to the poultry farmers.
The association will continue its assistance till May 10, he added.
