'M4 carbine' surrendered in Churachandpur

Imphal, March 03 2025:
A total of 741 arms have been surrendered across the state since the Governor made an appeal to surrender looted and illegally held weapons on February 20, reflecting a significant step in the ongoing disarmament efforts.
The first surrender of arms was recorded in Kakching district on February 21 .
Disturbingly, an M4A4 carbine of 5.6mm calibre, which is a property of US government was among a handful of arms surrendered in Churachandpur district on Monday.

According to data compiled from press releases issued by Manipur Police Control Room from February 21 till March 3 (Monday), 111 weapons were surrendered in the hill districts, while 630 were handed over to the authorities in the valley.
Of the total arms, 294 were of non-prohibited bore (NPB) and locally made including Pompi, whereas 447 fell under the prohibited bore (PB) category.
Of the 111 firearms surrendered in the hills, 62 were of NPB category and 49 were PB.
On the other hand, the 630 firearms surrendered in the valley include 232 NPB and 398 PB.
On Monday, a total of 33 firearms along with various ammunition, explosive materials and other military gears were handed over to authority in Churachandpur, Bishnupur, Thoubal, Imphal East and Imphal West districts.
At Churachandpur police station, two DBBL guns made in India, three .303 rifles with magazines & five rounds, one SLR rifle (7.62 mm 1A1) with magazine, and one M4A4 carbine (5.56 mm) with magazine, which is the property of the US government, a locally made sten gun with a magazine, three Pompi guns, a modified short-barrel .303 rifle with magazine, a Pompi gun with six shells, three walkie-talkie sets with chargers, four magazine pouches (vests), nine rounds of .303 ammunition, and two locally made hand grenades were turned in.
In Thoubal district, one SMG carbine with magazine, one SLR rifle with magazine, two No.36 hand grenades, five tear smoke shells (soft nose), two BP plates, one BP helmet, three BP vests, six military belts, two pairs of camouflage trousers, two camouflage shirts, and one camouflage P-cap were surrendered at the office of the SP.
At Heingang PS in Imphal East district, authorities received one 9mm pistol with magazine, two No.36 hand grenades, one 5.56 mm INSAS rifle magazine, and five rounds of 5.56 mm INSAS.
Meanwhile, at Yaingangpokpi PS, the surrendered arms included one 81 mm mortar bomb, one No.36 hand grenade, one SLR rifle with magazine, four Pompi bombs, five stun anti-riot devices, one tear smoke shell (soft nose), one smoke grenade, 10 rounds of 7.62mm and one helmet.
Porompat PS in Imphal East district received one .32 pistol, two stun grenades, three .32 rounds, two BP jackets and two BP fibre plates.
In Imphal West district, two .303 rifles with magazines, two country-made .32 pistols with magazines, one No.36 high-explosive grenade, three rounds of .32 ammunition, five tube launchers, and five 12-bore cartridges were surrendered at Lamphel PS.
At least 11 firearms, 168 ammunition and 17 explosive materials along with other military gears were also surrendered at 3rd IRB post and Nambol police station on Monday.
The cache of weapons, ammunition, and security equipment surrendered to the 3rd IRB were further handed over to Thoubal police station.
The surrendered items included one Italy-made 9mm pistol with magazine, one locally made 9mm pistol with magazine, one locally made .32 pistol with magazine, one magazine each for INSAS LMG and rifle, two double-barrel guns, one single-barrel locally made gun, three No.36 HE hand grenades, one live drone bomb, one 4-second detonator, one tube launcher, three stun grenades, two tear smoke grenades, seven tear smoke/stun shells, and two 38mm cartridge rubber bullets.
Five walkie-talkie sets, seven BP jackets sans plates, six BP plates, one multi-magazine pouch, seven pairs of ankle boots, one riot shield, seven BP helmets (patka), nine single-barrel cartridges, eight rounds of .303 CTN, seven 7.62mm BDR cartridges, eight 9mm ball cartridges, 36 rounds of 7.62x39mm, 11 rounds of 5.56mm, six casings of .303 CTN, and one welt belt were also surrendered.
In Bishnupur district, two SBBL guns, three DBBL guns, 30 cartridges, three rounds of 7.62mm, 50 rounds of 5.56mm, 12 BP jackets, 18 BP plates, 13 helmets, two side bags, 11 green-coloured pants, two camouflage full shirts, two olive-green jackets, four walkie-talkie sets with two chargers, and six pairs of shoes were surrendered to Nambol police station.
