Imphal, September 01 2024:
Federation of Civil Society Organisations (FOCS) Manipur has strongly condemned the violent attack on Koutruk village in Imphal West by 'Kuki terrorists' on Sunday around 2 pm .
Expressing deep concern that the attack claimed the life of a woman and inflicted injuries to her daughter and several other individuals, including security personnel, a statement released by FOCS described the offensive as an act of terrorism.
The attack claimed the life of Ngangbam Surbala (31) of Phayeng Umang Leikai, and injured her young daughter.
In addition, several others, including security forces, sustained injuries in the assault.
FOCS condemned the use of sophisticated weapons by the Kuki terrorists and noted that this was not an isolated incident as similar attacks were carried out in the past, resulting in the deaths of many civilians.
Despite severity of such attacks, the Government of India has been remaining silent rather than taking firm action against the perpetrators, The organisation called for the Central and state governments to implement stringent actions in accordance with the law against those responsible for the attack.
FOCS emphasised the need for prompt crackdown on the terrorists to prevent further violence and protect the lives of innocent civilians.
The statement also warned of unwanted consequences if the government fails to respond effectively to the recent attack.
FOCS indicated that if the Government of India continues to remain silent following Sunday's drone bombing, there may be growing demands from the people of Manipur to revert to the pre-merger status.
