Imphal, June 01 2022: Acting on the directive of Chief Minister N Biren, Veterinary and Animal Husbandry minister Khashim Ruivah inspected the Marjing Polo Complex at Heingang hill range and Manipur Horse Riding and Polo Association, Lamphel on Wednesday.

The minister was accompanied by officials of the department during the inspection.

Meanwhile, directorate of veterinary and animal husbandry has urged pony owners not to let loose their ponies but to take proper Care or keep them at the pony grazing grounds at 'Pangei' (Heingang) or Lamphelpat.

According to an order issued by veterinary and animal husbandry director Ng Ibotombi, many livestock especially horses along with their colts are being let loose by their owners resulting in loitering and straying on the roads in and around Imphal City.

This situation creates not only nuisance, inconveniences to the public/traffic but also causes several motor/vehicle accidents leading to even loss of many lives including those of the horses.

It then appealed to the people in general and pony owners in particular to take proper care of their animals and not to let them loose from their respective sheds or compound so as to avoid any unintended consequences to the public.

Further, owners who do not have facilities or proper facilities to take proper care of their animals are requested to avail the facilities provided by the government at Marjing Pony Complex and campus of Manipur Horse Riding and Polo Association and keep their ponies there, the order stated.

It further informed that letting loose of livestock especially horses, colts and letting them stray on the streets is not only a penal offence liable to be prosecuted under the Indian Penal Code, 1973 but also under the provisions of the Cattle -Trespass Act, 1871 .
