Imphal, September 27 2024:
Expressing concern over the Manipur security advisor's contradictory statements in the media, where he claimed that 900 armed Kuki militants entered Manipur, only to retract that the report could not be con firmed on the ground, Imagi Meira stated that the security advisor and the DGP will be held accountable for any untoward incidents that occur in the foothills or elsewhere in the state on September 28.Addressing the media persons at Manipur Press Club, here, on Friday, Imagi Meira convenor Th Sujata stated that despite the state government's attempts to silence the public, citizens should expose any wrongdoings.
She said that Imagi Meira cannot remain silent given the escalating situation in the state from September 16 to 26 .
On September 16, after media reports about 900 armed Kuki militants entering Manipur, the security advisor compelled media outlets to clarify their reports.
Subsequently, on September 20, he acknowledged the claims and mentioned that precautionary measures had been taken.
However, after backlash from the Kuki community, he retracted the earlier statement, which is very unfortunate and confusing, she said.
Sujata also urged the security advisor to take responsibility, suggesting that if he cannot do so, tender resignation and consider a political career.
She insisted he must honour his uniform and act impartially.
Maintaining that any untoward incident in the state on September 28 should be the sole responsibility of the security advisor and the DGP, she contended that there is hidden agenda behind the silence of the MLAs regarding the 17-month long crisis in the state.
The government appears to be siding with the Kuki community as no action has been taken against the 10 Kuki MLAs demanding a separate administration, she added.
Sujata further appealed to all 45 MLAs to unite and prioritise the welfare of the people.
