Imphal, May 27 2024:
The families of three deceased home guard personnel and two retired personnel were awarded Rs 5 lakh each under the home guard welfare scheme of Manipur Home Guard Employees' Welfare Association, in a simple function held at the Association's Luwangsangbam office on Monday.
Speaking on the occasion, Association president Y Mangi informed that the welfare scheme was floated with the money pooled in by home guard personnel.
Referring to the central government's petition in the Supreme Court for reviewing the pay scale of the home guards, Mangi said that the petition can only be regarded as an attempt to cut the salary of the home guards.
As such, there is the need for the home guards to make a unanimous stand on the matter, for any continued silence will be detrimental to the interests of the personnel.
He continued that in Manipur's context, the home guard personnel are receiving DA of around 14 per cent, when they should be receiving around 32 per cent.
In addition, the ration money and other benefits are being denied.
Thus, the review petition is not only disrespecting the home guards but also underscoring their sacrifice and contributions to the service, the president, while informing that the Association had already submitted a caveat petition to the Supreme Court in this regard.
