Imphal, April 26 2024:
IPR Cell of National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT), Imphal in association with the Patent Information Centre of Manipur Science & Technology Council (MASTEC) observed World Intellectual Property Day 2024, at the seminar hall of the institute on Friday.
Held under the theme 'Intellectual Property and Sustainable Development Goals; Building our Common Feature with Innovation and Creativity', the observance was attended by MASTEC Patent Information Centre's scientific officer in-charge Rk Pritamjit Singh as chief guest and NIELIT director N De-bachandra Singh as president.
Speaking on the occasion, Rk Pritamjit expressed that innovation is possible only when there is creativity while pointing out that any product getting patented is a proud moment both for the individual and the state, as Intellectual Property (IP) helps expedite economic growth of that state.
IP law differs from one nation to another, he said adding that in Manipur's context, Patent Information Centre (PIC) was set up in 2012 .
Regarding the theme, the scientific officer said that there are many alarming conditions on the way to ensuring its realisation.
As over 575 million people remained in extreme poverty in 2022, as per a report, there are concerns whether the goal could be achieved by 2030.Nonetheless, efforts should still be made to ensure success, he stressed.
During the programme, PIC Manipur L Surjit Singh, who attended as resource person, spoke on types of IP, its benefits to the society and how to apply for the same.
