Imphal, April 20 2025:
Three athletes accompanied by 12 supporters on Sunday set out for a foot march from Kangla Western Gate to Bishnupur Bazar to draw attention of the central government in resolving the ethnic conflict, and callousness of Manipuris, the Meetei community in particular, in-spite of the crisis situation imperilling many.
Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of the march, one among the three namely Heisnam Richard expressed serious resentment that in-spite of the conflict situation arising out of aggression by the Kuki narco-terrorists claiming the lives of hundreds of innocent civilians, there has been no serious efforts made to tackle the perpetrators despite extension of AFSPA, 1958 and presence of large number of central security forces in the state.
While pointing out that Meeteis are unable to go on pilgrimage to Thangjing, Koubru, etc., he demanded that authorities concerned expedite process to ensure safe return of the internally displaced persons (IDPs) staying in relief camps to their ancestral homes Exhorting the public to unite to save Manipur, Richard stated that the march is being taken out to motivate the state's denizens to join hands for the safeguard of Manipur and its people.
Tejbanta Sharma and TR Dithuwan are the other two athletes taking part in the march.
