Imphal, November 12 2021: Director General of Assam Rifles Lt Gen Pradeep Chandran Nair visited Sainik School Imphal on Friday and assured that the Assam Rifles will extend all possible assistance in the development of the School.

He also inaugurated a mega medical camp organised by IGAR (South) at its Mantripukhri garrison.

Lt Gen Nair, who is an ex student of Sainik School, Satara, joined the NDA in 1982 and has served extensively in north-eastern region including in Manipur, Assam, Nagaland and Sikkim.

The DGAR also interacted with the cadets at Atal Tinkering Lab (ATL) where the cadets demonstrated their skills with scientific innovation.

The DGAR also interacted with the staff of the school and expressed that he longed to visit the school since years back.

He also appreciated the principal and staff for the large number of entry of cadets into the NDA in the past two years and helping in the nation building process through their consistent hard work and dedication.

He also noted that the youth of Manipur are highly talented in all fields and further stressed that sports in India is inconceivable without players from Manipur, the release said.

The principal on behalf of the school fraternity extended gratitude to the DGAR for the assistance provided by IGAR (S) to the school while DGAR assured that he will put on efforts so the Assam Rifles extend all possible assistance to the school, particularly in the domain of sports infrastructure.

Meanwhile, Lt Gen Nair inaugurated a mega medical camp organised by IGAR (South) for Assam Rifles' ex-servicemen, veer naris and local populace at Mantripukhri on Friday in the presence of IGAR (S) major general Alok Naresh, Imphal East chief medical officer Dr L Indira and other Assam Rifles officials.

The medical camp conducted with strict adherence to COVID-19 protocols had the participation of over 3000 people including veterans, veer naris and their dependents along with locals from various remote villages which lack medical infrastructure and amenities.

The camp was organised under the theme 'We Connect - We Care' and provided specialised medical treatment by a team of medical specialists from premier hospitals in Delhi as well as from Assam Rifles and RIMS, Imphal.

Special medical equipment such hearing aids, walkers, wheel chairs and stretchers were also distributed to those requiring assistance by DGAR.

Speaking on the occasion, Pradeep Chan-dran Nair exhorted all the stakeholders to render maximum support to the veterans and locals especially in the wake of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

He also urged everyone to co-operate with the medical fraternity and the government in quelling the pandemic.

He also expressed his appreciation for Alok Naresh and the team of IGAR (South) for conducting such a mega medical camp at this crucial juncture in the battle against COVID.

The General Officer further elucidated various new initiatives under the theme of 'We Connect - We Care' being taken up by the Assam Rifles for the welfare of veterans and local populace of Manipur.

He also expressed his gratitude to the State Health Department, Civil Administration and media persons of the state for their co-operation for making the event a grand success.
